We've been specialising in newborn photography for over 8 years now. Our studio is well known in the North East region of England for top notch quality photography, a vision that makes difference and excellent customer service. We are based in Sunderland but covering the whole North East with major cities like Newcastle, Durham, Gateshead, Darlington,South Shields, Stockton-on-Tees and Hartlepool. One of the most frequently asked questions in our field refers to the perfect timing for a newborn shoot. Our advice is always more or less the same - ultimately, it is best to have your session scheduled within 1-3 weeks after birth. But what happens if you miss this window?

If I have missed the right time for a newborn session, should I just give up?

Absolutely not! Oftentimes, it is impossible to arrange a session at this exact time. For example, your baby might have to stay in the hospital a little longer, or you might not feeling up for it just yet - you name it! We want to assure you that there is absolutely no problem if you have missed this so called 'golden' moment. We have plenty of experience working with older babies - in fact, a third of the newborns that come to our studio are slightly ‘older’. Your baby is still overwhelmingly cute and we can still capture the magic with our camera.

Our practice is to book standard newborn sessions for up to 8 weeks old babies. If your baby is up to 8 weeks old, chances are their newborn session will look exactly like a typical newborn session of a 1-2 weeks old baby.

How will a newborn session with a slightly older baby look like?

To help you have as typical of a newborn session as possible, we will go to great lengths to accommodate your little one before and during the session. We will play some relaxing (and sleepy) music as well as shushing white noise to help the baby to relax and go to sleep. However, it is worth noting that it all comes down to how the little model is feeling on the day of the shoot. If he/she is very active or unable to fall asleep during the session, we would be rather limited with the choice of poses and it might be best to reschedule for another day, at no extra cost for you. Don’t worry though, we have plenty of experience with active munchkins, so have plenty of poses that will work with them as well.

Please remember that we specialise in newborn sessions and we have lots of props for the posed styles to choose from. Should you opt for ‘Simplicity’ style, we are skilful in posing your baby safely, even if he/she is still awake. We can also mix props and simplicity if you wish. Either way, we guarantee that in the end you will have lots of pictures to choose from.

A tip: For older babies, we often recommend going with our ‘Simplicity’ style. This is due to the fact that oftentimes they already have a personality on their own and it is a true blessing being able to capture it in their most natural ways!

How to book a newborn session for an older baby?
